Hello Deep South Program Leads,

Let me personally thank you for the help you are giving to our veterans.  I do not need to say again how important this is. As a reminder to all of us, I will repeat our mission -- the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled veterans through fly tying education, casting classes, rod building instruction, and fishing outings.

National PHWFF has approved our 2014 Program budgets. Now we can get started working together to provide more support for and expanding our programs!

I will be calling each of you individually to discuss your local plans, how we can help, and work together to make our Program plans successful. To aid in supporting you locally, we are working to develop a series of emails and press releases we will assist you in marketing to your local military, social associations, local chambers and businesses.

With your help, we will work together to build PHWFF recognition locally, making it easier for you to find donors.

Our first Deep South Regional saltwater event is planned for Armed Forces Day, May 17th, 2014, at the Bradenton Yacht Club in Palmetto FL – combining participation of local military and social groups to honor all veterans. The event will combine three elements: 30 boats taking our warriors fishing, a two day silent auction fundraiser, and a PHWFF public presentation honoring our community veterans.

By contributing and supporting this event you can select your disabled veterans and dedicated volunteers to join in the event and go fishing. With your assistance we will develop a toolkit to hold an Honors program in your home area. Donations and funds raised through your local Honors programs will remain in your local program budget.

The Deep South Committee for Program Development includes: Mike Reeves, Past Commodore Bradenton Yacht Club; Pat Damico, Past Deep South Regional Coordinator; Kevin Gorby, Past Co Regional Coordinator; Deborah Brooks, PL Tampa; Alex Woodsum, PL Miami; Chad Cook, PL Orlando; Terry Kirkpatrick, PL Bay Pines; Jack Ehrhardt, Past President of Backcountry Fly Fishers of Orlando; Gene Gaines, PHWFF IT Manager; and me.

With everyone working together everything is achievable. I know and applaud your victories large and small. Remember, it is always about our disabled veterans, as we see the individual miracles through fly fishing activities.

Laurence Lurie
Regional Coordinator, FL, AL, and MS
