HONORING OUR NATION’S DISABLED VETERANS ON ARMED FORCES DAY
Join us on May 17 in Palmetto, Florida, on Armed Forces Day in support of the Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing fourth annual outing to honor disabled veterans in our region and the Veterans Administration hospitals who serve them.
Three local organizations -- Project Healing Waters, the Bradenton Yacht Club, and the Crosthwait Memorial Fishing Tournament -- will team to honor our nation’s disabled veterans on Armed Forces Day 2014. You are invited to join us in person or in heart.
In the morning, some 30 fishing boats and 60 volunteers will take wounded military and disabled veterans fly fishing. In the afternoon, the public is invited to participate in ceremonies for all veterans, including a Flag Folding Ceremony, and public presentations recognizing all attending veterans.
Project Healing Waters Deep South operates programs in 15 VA hospital medical centers, clinics and centers across Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi in: Bay Pines, Biloxi, Daytona, Eglin, Gulfport, Hattiesburg, Jacksonville, MacDill AFB, Miami, Orlando VA Medical Center, Orlando VA Hospital, Pensacola, Tampa, The Villages, Brevard County.

Historical Background PHWFF
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. (PHWFF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, currently operating 161 programs in 48 states associated with Veterans Hospitals and Clinics.
Our mission is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and veterans through Fly casting, fly tying, and rod building classes, fly fishing education and monthly fishing outings, at no cost to our heroes.
Deep South PHWFF Programs are all volunteer-run. We rely on the generosity of both private and corporate donors. PHWFF also solicits foundation grants but does not receive government funding. PHWFF is part of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC #82526).
In 2013, more than 130,000 hours were donated nationally by more than 2400 PHWFF volunteers, enabling more than 5400 recovering warriors and disabled veterans to participate in PHWFF program activities.
Project Healing Waters fly fishing outings and other program activities have been featured on ESPN, CNN, FOX, and Fly Rod Chronicles, as well as local network television and cable stations, the web and major newspapers, magazines and other publications.
